B-G wins last 3 MAC games

GREENE – All 10 players on the Lady Trojans roster scored in Wednesday’s 68-11 win over Afton in their final regular season game.
Greene opened the game holding the Crimson Knights scoreless while Emma Smith registered six of the Trojans 11 first-quarter points.
McKenna Sergi, the lone senior on the Greene roster this season, celebrated her special night in style as she recorded a game-high 21 points. Sergi knocked down all five of the Trojans’ 3-point buckets in the contest, starting with two in the second quarter as she paced the home team with 10 points in the stanza.
Making her other three from behind the 3-point arc after the halftime break, Sergi once again led in the scoring column in the third.
As the Trojans recorded 20-plus points in both the second and third quarters, all Greene players registered points in the scorebook before the start of the fourth.
Afton closed out the game with six points, their highest scoring quarter. Casey East led the Crimson Knights with four points.
Smith finished the game with 14 points – all scored in the first half – and teammate Katelynn Pratt added nine in the win for Greene.
The Trojans, the sixth-seed in the Midstate Athletic Conference playoff tournament, will host Oxford for a first round contest Monday night. The start time has yet to be announced.
Bainbridge-Guilford 61, Greene 56
BAINBRIDGE – After the Lady Bobcats held the lead for the first three quarters of play, the Greene Trojans rebounded in the fourth quarter as Kylee Peck made to free throws, tying the game at 50-50 with 4:39 remaining on Tuesday.
20 seconds later, Bainbridge-Guilford’s Abi Selfridge scored two points to take the lead back and ultimately for good as the Bobcats took the Midstate Athletic Conference win, 61-56.
Greene started the fourth on a 12-2 run, erasing the 12 point Bobcat lead with balanced scoring between Olivia Kennedy, Emma Smith, McKenna Sergi and Peck. However, their offense stalled for nearly three minutes while B-G built their lead back up on each possession down the floor.
Bainbridge-Guilford opened up the game with a 16-9 first quarter score and continued to add to the margin in each of the three quarters.
In the close second quarter, B-G outscored Greene 14-12 to take a nine point advantage into the halftime break. All 12 Trojan points scored in the stanza came from Smith.
Coming out of the intermission, the Trojans kept it close as Sergi led the scoring attack in the third for Greene with 10 points.
The balanced scoring by the Bobcats throughout the game was just too much as they held on for the win in the end. Selfridge led all scorers with 27 points while Macie Leizear scored 13.
The Trojans were led Smith’s 24 points. Sergi finished with 15.
Bainbridge-Guilford’s win over Greene was their third in as many games. The Bobcats topped Walton Saturday afternoon 61-53, a day after they defeated Oxford 56-31.
B-G opened the game with a Macie Leizear basket then six made free throws by Abi Selfridge as they took a 15-9 lead in the first quarter.
Walton battled back, pulling within a single point by the intermission, chipping away at the Bobcats lead with their 15 points in the quarter. Defensively, the Warriors held Selfridge scoreless – a task in itself – and limited Bainbridge-Guilford to 10 points in the quarter.
Back and forth was the way of the third quarter as the two teams nearly matched point for point.
Holding the two point lead entering the final eight minutes of play, B-G’s defense allowed just three made field goals for the Warriors while they slowly pulled away for the win.
Abi Selfridge led all scorers with 23 points and her teammates Leizear and Erica Selfridge contributed 14 and 10 respectively.
Walton was paced by McKenzie Clough’s 22 points – 10 coming in the third stanza to keep the Warriors within reach – while Olivia Harby reached double-figures with 16.
Less than 24 hours before, the Bobcats defeated Oxford behind Abi Selfridge’s 28 points.
Abi started the game off with 12 points – two converted and-1 plays – and closed the game out with another eight points to pace Bainbridge-Guilford throughout.
B-G led 17-8 after the first quarter but once again allowed their opponent back into the contest as the Blackhawks outscored the Bobcats 13-10 in the second. Oxford went into the locker room trailing by just six points.
Pulling it back together in the second half, Bainbridge-Guilford scored 29 points over the two quarters while holding the Blackhawks to 10 points.
Leizear added nine points in the win for the Bobcats.
Oxford was led by Caitlyn Quigley’s nine points while Karley Miller finished the game with eight and Madalyn Barrows added six.
Both the Bobcats and the Blackhawks completed their regular season and move into the Midstate Athletic Conference tournament play rounds. Bainbridge-Guilford earned the top seed and will host Walton on Monday, February 11.
Oxford received the seven-seed and will take travel to Greene on Monday also. Times have yet to be announced.
