Furner’s double-double paces Lady Marauders in senior night win over Clinton

SHERBURNE – The Lady Marauders ended their four games in four days stretch with a 68-43 win over Clinton on senior night.
Senior Kaitlyn Furner of Sherburne-Earlville ended her regular season career on a high-note, scoring 24 points and pulling down 16 rebounds.
Furner, Amberlyn Robertson, Sage Ashton and Mackenzie Holmes were recognized prior to the start of the contest. All four scored by the end of second quarter as the Marauders took a seven point lead into the halftime break.
S-E produced 25 points in the first quarter of the contest as the team shared the ball and found the open player on every basket scored in the 11-0 run to start. Clinton’s Hanna Morse ended the run with a 15-foot jumper, tallying the first two points of the game by the visiting team.
The Marauders didn’t let up after the Morse bucket as Tessa Cole knocked down back-to-back 3-pointers – her second and third of the quarter – to put S-E ahead by 13.
Cole ended the first quarter with 11 while Furner finished the first quarter with nine points.
Clinton’s Gianna Trunfio and Morse combined to score all 11 points in the second quarter as the visiting team chipped away at the Sherburne-Earlville.
Out of the intermission, Furner found her scoring rhythm again, scoring eight points while Cole hit her fourth three of the game. Sherburne-Earlville extended the margin by five points to enter the fourth with a 12 point lead.
All seniors scored in the final eight minutes of play as the Marauders went on to win by 25.
Cole ended the night with 21 points on a 50-percent shooting percentage from beyond the arc (5-for-10) while the team went 9-for-11 at the free throw line.
Ashton tallied seven points, Holmes scored eight and Robertson finished the game with four.
Sherburne-Earlville spilt their four games, going 2-2 for the week. The Marauders started off with back-to-back losses to Holland Patent (64-46) and Adirondack (57-31).
S-E rebounded by Wednesday to beat Canastota, 54-30. With their two wins this week, the Marauders finish the regular season with an 11-9 overall record and will wait for their Section III seed in the Class B bracket. The seeding meeting is set to take place at 9 a.m. in Syracuse Wednesday, February 13.
