Prison officials say no foul play in the death of convicted murderer
AUBURN – New York State Police investigators confirmed Thursday the death of Jeremy Coates, an inmate at Auburn Correctional Facility likely didn't involve foul play.
Coates was found guilty of murder and robbery in April 2018, convicted of killing an Oxford man and then stealing from the victim's home.
Coates was sentenced to life without parole, but had served less than eight months before his death.
According to New York State Police Investigator Greg Cool, the investigation into Coates' death is still ongoing, but at this point law enforcement have determined his death doesn't appear to have resulted from foul play, and no one in Auburn prison is facing additional charges.
