SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville High School senior Edward Geier was selected to receive a $1,000 Rabo Agrifinance SAE grant to help complete his supervised agricultural experience (SAE), a maple syrup production business.
Geier is a member of the Sherburne-Earlville Future Farmers of America (FFA) chapter and was selected to receive the grant from over 2,100 applicants nationwide. With the $1,000 grant, he was able to purchase a new evaporator for his maple syrup business to produce a cleaner syrup.
Rabo Agrifinance offers financial services to United States farmers, ranchers, and agribusiness. Its mission is “...to support leading producers and agribusinesses by recognizing and encouraging the ambition, independence and innovative thinking that is necessary to compete in a global marketplace and to provide the foundation for future generations.”
All FFA members are tasked with completing an SAE project to either create and operate an agriculture-related business, work at an agriculture related business, or conduct an agricultural research experience. The grant is intended to help FFA members create and enhance their project. After finishing their SAE, FFA members must submit a comprehensive report about their career development experience.
The national FFA organization is comprised of 670,152 student members who belong to one of 8,660 local FFA chapters throughout the United States, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. It is also supported by 459,417 alumni members in 2,236 alumni chapters in the country.
