Norwich teen charged with series of business burglaries
NORWICH – The Norwich Police have arrested a 17-year-old Norwich youth following a series of commercial burglaries in downtown Norwich.
The teen has been charged with three counts of third degree burglary and fourth degree grand larceny, all felonies. He is also charged with three counts of misdemeanor criminal mischief for destroying property.
The teen was caught on several surveillance videos inside and outside of the businesses and police used the recordings to help identify the suspect.
Police first began investigating the crimes after being contacted on Feb. 11 about a weekend break-in at New Media Retailer, a company located along Lackawanna Ave in Norwich. The suspect then allegedly returned about a week later and committed a second break at the same business.
Then on Tuesday, police were again called to the area to investigate a reported burglary, but this time across the street at a different business, the Norwich Pennysaver.
In each instance it appears the assailant forced his way into the businesses and damaged property before rummaging through electronic items and stealing some of them.
He is being held in Norwich City lock-up and will appear in Norwich City Court later today.
