Youth wrestling has successful weekend for Norwich program

NORWICH – The Norwich pee wee wrestling program, sponsored by the Norwich Youth Bureau and coached by Matt Telesky and Dave Schuster, had another successful weekend of wresting.
On March 2, Coach Telesky took five wrestlers to the Middle Atlantic Wrestling Association (MAWA) District Championships in Johnson City, NY where three wrestlers qualified for the MAWA North Regional Championships.
Rocky Burke, Drew Telesky and Cameron Smith will now head to King’s College in Wilkes Barre, PA on March 30 to compete at regional championship tournament.
Over the weekend, Burke and Telesky placed first in their weight classes while Smith finished second, qualifying each for regionals.
At the conclusion of the North Regional Championships, the top four in each weight class will earn a berth to the MAWA Eastern National Championships, held at Wicomico Civic Center in Salisbury, MD on May 4 and 5.
Coach Schuster took Braden Hagenbuch to the New York Wrestling Association for Youth (NYWAY) State Qualifiers in Tioga Center, NY one day later and Hagenbuch placed second, losing just his first match all season in the finals by a last second move by his opponent.
With the young wrestler’s finish, Hagenbuch qualified for the NYWAY State Championships, which will be held Friday afternoon and all day Saturday in Brockport, NY.
Coach Telesky extends a congratulations to all wrestler and good luck in the upcoming competitions. He also thanks for the Norwich Youth Bureau for their continued support of the program.
