UHS Chenango Memorial welcomes nurse midwife
NORWICH – UHS officials said women have unique health care needs at every stage of life, from childbearing years through menopause and into their senior years, and now, thanks to a new addition to the UHS Chenango Memorial team, area women will have greater options and access to the care they need at any age.
Chris Kisacky, Vice President of Service Coordination and Development at UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital spoke on the recent hire, and why it's important to have a nurse midwife in the Chenango County community.
“We are thrilled to welcome a Christina ‘Tina’ Mann, CNM, APN, to our team at the UHS Women’s Health Center in Norwich. Tina is an experienced Certified Nurse Midwife, something our community desperately needs,” said Kisacky.
According to Kisacky, it has been more than a decade since the hospital was able to provide midwifery services.
“A midwife offers a different style of care, which some women prefer,” she said. “We knew members of our community were traveling outside of the area to receive midwifery services and felt strongly about offering them this option closer to home.”
She added that it took more than a year to find the right candidate, who would be a good fit on both the clinical side and for the community.
“We’ve found that fit with Tina," said Kisacky. "She’s the perfect complement to our existing women’s health provider team."
Mann is a graduate of Frontier Nursing University in Kentucky, and a US Navy Veteran. She has spent much of her life in the Southern United States, including Texas and Kentucky. She has relocated to Chenango County for the position, and says she is looking forward to getting to know both her new community and new patients.
“I love to educate my patients and teach them everything I can,” said Mann. “I spend time with each of them and once we begin to learn from each other, I think we build a closer bond as patient and provider.”
Mann will work collaboratively with the Women’s Health Center’s existing care team, which includes four providers: Dr. Timothy Corey, Dr. Phyllis White, Dr. Ross Baxter and Physician’s Assistant Alyssa MacIntosh.
“I am looking forward to working with this exceptional team here in Norwich,” she said. “Being part of this group will give me a chance to enjoy delivering care, and nothing makes me happier than being there for my patients.”
UHS Women’s Health Norwich offers a broad range of women’s health services including obstetrics, gynecology, breast health, maternity and child birth. Satellite services are also provided at UHS Primary Care Sidney and UHS Primary Care Sherburne. All providers, including Mann, are accepting new patients.
