Center State and Southern Tier Athletic Conferences announce All-Stars

CHENANGO COUNTY – The Center State Conference (CSC) and Southern Tier Athletic Conference (STAC) announced their girls and boys All-Star selections for the 2018-2019 season as the basketball season has officially come to a close in New York.
Sherburne-Earlville’s Hunter Lane, a senior guard on the boys basketball team, was named as the CSC Division-I Most Valuable Player for the season.
Lane eclipsed the 1,000 career points milestone on the Marauders’ senior night. The S-E senior averaged 23.6 points per game and finished with a total of 520 for the season.
Lane ended his career with a point total of 1,135, which is now second on the all-time scoring list for the Marauders’ program.
Also earning All-Star honors for the S-E boys team were junior point guard Gabe Irwin and junior forward Noah Posson.
Irwin finished the season with 143 assists as well as 8.6 points per game average. Posson scored 6.3 per game and was the team’s leading rebounder with 117 for the year.
Sherburne-Earlville’s Head Coach Kevin Vibbard was named the CSC Division-I coach of the year. Vibbard led his basketball team to 14-6 overall record while winning the league championship after posting a 7-1 record.
On the girl’s side, sophomore Tessa Cole and senior Kaitlyn Furner were named to the CSC Division-I First team while teammate Sage Ashton, a senior, received a second team nod.
Cole ended the year with a total of 289 points with 120 coming from behind the 3-point arc. Teammate Furner also finished reaching the 200 point benchmark this season, ending with 265 points in 21 games.
Ashton scored 128 points for the year and was strong on the defensive side of the ball for the Lady Maraduers. Ashton was third on the team for made 3-point field goals.
Norwich had five players between both the boys and girls programs named the STAC East Division All-Star teams.
For the girls, senior Taylor Hansen was joined by junior’s Halea Eaton and Abby Flynn.
Hansen led Norwich in the scoring column, averaging 11.4 points per game while dishing out 106 assists.
Eaton averaged 9.0 per game but led the Purple Tornado squad with a 142 assists, 126 steals and 22 charges drawn against the opponent. Norwich head coach Josh Bennett stated all three stats are the highest in a single season since he became head coach 10 years ago.
Flynn led the team in rebounds for the season, pulling down 135 boards of the glass while taken 88 balls away from the other team. She also averaged 7.5 points per game.
The Purple Tornado boys had two seniors named to the STAC East Division All-Star teams. Marcus Cashman and Skylar Wenzel received the nods as Cashman averaged 11.2 points per game and had the team’s second highest 3-point field goal percentage with 36-percent.
Wenzel, a big man in the middle for Norwich, was second on the team for season point total with 228 and second on the Tornado with 160 rebounds.
