Former Oxford TA charged with rape of student offered a few months in jail
NORWICH – A former Oxford Academy teacher's assistant, who was recently fired after the New York State Police charged her in January with raping a middle-school student, was offered a plea deal by prosecutors that would require her to become a registered sex offender and serve six months in jail.
Heaven L. Parrish, 20, of Smithville Flats was arrested on Jan. 2. Parrish is charged with second-degree criminal sex act, a class D felony, second-degree rape, a class D felony, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor. She was a full-time teacher's aide at the middle school.
She has pleaded not guilty.
Parrish avoided a grand jury indictment and was offered a the plea deal during her first appearance in Chenango County Court. In return the district attorney's office promised her she wouldn't receive more than six months incarceration with 10 years probation. She would also have to register as a sex offender.
Chenango County Court Judge Frank Revoir Jr. said she previously posted $5,000 bail, and the DA continued the bail.
An order of protection was filed for the victim.
