Greene’s Yahner nearly pitches a perfect game in Trojans win
Matthews homers for 3rd time in Bobcats win over UV; Oxford battles but falls to Sidney
DELHI – Greene’s Payton Yahner, an eighth-grader, made her first varsity start Thursday afternoon. Yahner took a perfect game bid into the fifth inning but Delhi’s Nealis broke up it up a single.
Yahner completed the five-inning game with seven strikeouts and no walks, surrendering just two hits as the Trojans won 17-1 in Delhi.
The youngster who started in the circle for Greene received support from the Trojans’ bats as Mckenzie Scott and McKenna Sergi each home run shots during the game with Scott coming away with two.
Scott ended the game with three RBIs while Sergi finished the game with three hits and two RBIs.
Greene, who is undefeated at 3-0 on the season, takes on Chenango Forks Saturday at 11 a.m.

Sidney 12, Oxford 9
OXFORD – Tied a 6-6 during the top half of the fifth inning, Sidney was able to add two more runs before Oxford was able to close them out and get their chance to respond. The Warriors, however, held off the Blackhawks from scoring in the bottom half of the fifth. Adding another four runs in the sixth, Sidney took the ball game with a final score of 12-9.
