Norwich pounds the track for another home meet win over Oneonta

NORWICH – The Norwich track and field teams continued their dominance in a dual meet on the track Tuesday afternoon as both the boys and girls defeated the Oneonta Yellowjackets by a large margin.

The Purple Tornado boys’ team took the meet by a final score of 102-39, winning all but three events in the meet.

In the three events the Yellowjackets claimed first place in, Paul Zimmer came across the finish line first in two. Zimmer took both of the long distance events – the 1600 and 3200 meter runs. Oneonta’s 4x100 meter relay team finished the event first with a time of 50.9.

Norwich’s Gabe Gawronski was the top winner for the meet taking home a first place finish in three individual events and was the member of the 4x400 meter relay team that dominated the track. Gawronksi, who ran the last leg of the relay, finished the event in a relaxed pace as the Tornado were nearly a 300 meters ahead of the second place team.

Gawronski ran a 53.5 in the 400 meter race and finished the 800 meter run in 2:16. He also participated in the high jump during the meet, clearing a final height of 5 feet-10 inches.

The Tornado’s Eric Conant, another member of the 4x400 meter relay team, continued to shine as the top sprinter on the team. Conant grabbed first in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.4 seconds and added the 200 meter to his winning sheet, crossing the finish line at 23.1 seconds.
