Law firm reveals list of former Boy Scout volunteers accused of sexual misconduct

NEW YORK – A law firm released the names of more than 150 New York individuals associated with the Boy Scouts of America who they claim have had accusations of sexual misconduct made against them.

The details of the individual accusations, the eventual outcomes, or sources, were not part of the firm's report, which was based on internal files kept by the Boy Scouts, said Attorney Jeff Anderson on Wednesday, founder of the firm, Jeff Anderson & Associates.

The firm has been working with victims and investigating the boy scouts. It filed the report after examining files that were released to the public. The firm is based in Minnesota but has offices in California and New York City. Since the 1980's the firm has made a history of working with victims of sexual abuse. Currently it represents sexual abuse victims involved in legal action against the Boy Scouts and the Catholic Church.

“Somebody has to sound the alarm, somebody has to ring the bell,” said Anderson.

Asked what those in the report were accused of, Anderson explained the report represented an internal list kept by the Boy Scouts, with volunteers who had been banned from the organization.

“This means the Boy Scouts made an internal determination that this person was ineligible to be a volunteer because of accusation of sexual misconduct,” said Anderson.

He said the Boy Scouts had wanted to keep the list secret and that more than 50 percent of those accused had yet to be revealed. He cited other sources and said as many as 7,800 former volunteers in total could have faced accusations of sexual misconduct before being designated by the organization.

The report stated: “In its 2017 Annual Report (available on the BSA website), the Boy Scouts of America reported approximately 889,000 registered adult leaders that provide support and guidance to approximately 2,283,000 youth members and explorers registered in individual Boy Scouts programs.”

The report released by the firm also states: “The Anderson List of Sexual Abuse in the Boy Scouts in New York contains the names of individuals associated with the Boy Scouts, who have been accused of sexual misconduct with minors. The information in this Anderson List is derived from publicly available sources. While lawsuits may have been filed involving some of these alleged perpetrators, the vast majority of the claims against these individuals have not been fully evaluated in a civil or criminal court. Accordingly, the allegations should not be considered proven or substantiated in a court of law. All individuals should be considered innocent until proven guilty.”

According to the law firm area troop leaders among the accused, include: Norwich: Timothy C. Ward, Troop 63. Binghamton: Robert J. Carson Troop 24, Troop 166 and James L. Heath, Pack 40. Cortland: Richard William Latham, Troop 87 and John Dudley Moulton Troop 11. Fly Creek: Albert Kenneth, Jungers Unit 7.
