No. 8 Trojans spilt back-to-back games
GREENE – After suffering their first loss of the season, the eighth ranked team of New York State Class C rankings Greene Lady Trojans recovered by winning topping Unatego 17-0 Wednesday afternoon.
The Trojans used 15 singles and 18 hits in the game to score eight runs in the first and fourth innings. The home team added one run in the third and were held scoreless by the Spartans in the second inning.
Greene’s freshman catcher McKenzie Scott led the team at the plate, recording three hits and four RBIs over the five innings of play while several players on the Trojans roster came away with two hits in their at-bats.
Olivia Kennedy, Greene’s freshman ace from the circle, threw another no-hitter from the rubber, marking her fourth of the season. Nearly pitching a perfect game, Kennedy walked just two Unatego batters but struck out six in the win.
Kennedy helped her own cause by batting in two Trojan runners in three hits for the game.
Greene did not commit an error defensively.

The Bobcats’ Kori Thornton came away with a double base knock in back-to-back at-bats in the, sending in Bainbridge-Guilford runners across the plate in both the fourth and sixth innings.
To put the B-G runners into scoring position, the Bobcats were successful on four key plays, using sacrifice bunts. Then, Bainbridge-Guilford was able to take advantage of some key walks and misplays by Greene’s defense.
The Trojans spread out six hits over the course of the game but couldn’t come up with the timely hit needed with runners in scoring position.
With Greene holding a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the third, B-G’s Ashley Matthews ripped a deep fly ball that was headed over the centerfield fence for a home run.
Hustling after the ball in the air was the Trojans’ Faith Tierno, ended up coming away with the catch for the out while still in play before flipping over the fence.
“[Faith’s catch] was the best catch I’ve seen in almost 20 years of coaching softball,” said Greene’s head coach Rick Smith of the web gem play.
Bobcats’ pitcher Morgan Neidig picked up the win over Greene, striking out seven and walking just one batter while surrendering the one run by Greene in the second inning.
Kennedy also tossed Tuesday’s game, recording nine strikeouts .
Greene (9-1, 8-1) is now off until Monday when they will travel to Whitney Point for a non-league contest. Game time is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
Bainbridge-Guilford topped Oxford Wednesday afternoon 14-0 to improve to 13-1 overall on the season. They are now also off until Monday where the Bobcats will host Harpursville at 4:30 p.m.
