GREENE – The Greene Central School Board of Education approved Timothy Calice as its new superintendent. Calice and the board agreed to a three-year contract that will commence July 1.

The Board of Education selected Calice in March and negotiated a contract that was officially approved at Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting.

“It is with great enthusiasm that I and my colleagues on the Greene Central School District Board of Education announce the selection of our next school superintendent,” Board of Education president Brian Milk said in a statement when Calice was chosen to succeed interim superintendent Gordon Daniels. “Mr. Calice possesses the proven leadership skills and passion for education that we believe will be critical to guiding our district through the years ahead. Tim has demonstrated experience in curriculum and professional development, budget preparation, capital project management and community outreach. Most importantly, his commitment to, and passion for our district is second to none.”

Calice was one of two finalists for the position – Tina Lane, assistant superintendent in the Oneida City School District, was the other finalist.

“I am humbled and honored to have the opportunity to lead the Greene Central School District,” Calice said Thursday. “The support from the staff and community has been amazing! I will work tirelessly to build upon and enhance the future of the district while honoring the pride and past traditions of this community.”

Calice has served in several capacities within the Greene Central District over the past nine years.

“My experience in the District has provided me with knowledge about the district and community, yet it is important that I build a plan that incorporates board, student, faculty, staff, administrator, parent, and community feedback as a way to collaboratively create the district’s vision, mission, and goals,” Calice said.

With Calice’s ascension to superintendent, Greene will be looking for both a middle school and high school principal, as James Walters announced his retirement as high school principal effective July 1.
