Yahner’s first career no-hitter gives Greene 10th victory of season

Marauders improve to 6 wins; Afton and B-G fall

WHITNEY POINT – The Lady Trojans improved to 10-1 on the season behind eighth-grader Payton Yahner’s arm as she threw the first no-hitter of her young career. Greene won the game by a final score of 26-2 Monday afternoon.
Earning her second victory of the season, Yahner used seven strikeouts in the process. She also helped her own cause on the mound as she had four hits in the batters box, resulting in four RBIs and four scored runs for the Trojans.
Greene senior McKenna Sergi led the offense with four hits while scoring five runs.
The Trojans scored six runs to open the game and added two in the second. In the third, the visiting team put the contest well out of reach, scoring 11 runs in the frame. They added seven over the course of the final two innings.
Whitney Point scored two in the bottom of the first inning by several walks allowed by the young Greene pitcher. However, once Yahner settled in, the home Eagles did not register another run in the game.
Greene will face a test to their schedule on Tuesday when they take on Makenzie Stiles and the rest of the Deposit team at 4:30 p.m.

Harpursville 2, Bainbridge-Guilford 0
BAINBRIDGE – Alexus Roys of Harpursville looked at the first pitch thrown by Bainbridge-Guilford’s Morgan Neidig in the circle. The next pitch from Neigid went off Roys’ bat and went deep to left field, resulting in a two-run home run for the batter and the 2-0 road win for the Hornets Monday.
Neidig ended the game with 14 strikeouts in the contest, allowing Harpursville just two more hits. On those two hits, the Bobcats were able to get out of the inning to keep the game within reach.
However, the home team was unable to get anything going at the plate, registering just one hit on offense.
The single hit for B-G came from the bat of Bailey Hart as a lead-off hit in the top of the sixth. The Bobcats did get on base with errors by the Hornets’ defense but holding B-G from scoring was Harpursville’s pitcher Harley Bunker.
Bunker pitched well to contact and, despite the four errors by her fielders’, was able to get out of a jam. She ended the game with five strikeouts.
Shyanne Stilson and Mackenzie Robertson had the other two hits for the Hornets in the win.
The Bobcats (13-2) will host a tough, undefeated Deposit team on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

DEPOSIT – Makenzie Stiles tossed 15 strikeouts to earn yet another no-hitter on the season as Deposit topped Afton 17-0 to continue their undefeated season.
The Lady Lumberjacks extended their perfect record to 11-0 as Mikala Martin led Deposit at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs.
One of Martin’s homers came in the first inning as the home team batted through the order. Martin led the inning off with a single.
Martin’s second was a solo shot that led off the bottom of the third with a deep fly ball to left field
Stiles helped herself in the circle, added a three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth, ending the game to the 15-run mercy rule.
Oliviah Harris-Morris was Afton’s starting pitcher in the contest. Of the 10 runs scored during her time toeing the rubber, two runs were earned. Teammate Sophie Grove replaced her in the fourth.
Deposit also saw Kayla Eldred record a double as she went 2-for-3 for the afternoon and Riley Martin went 2-for-4 while Alaina Smith went 2-for-3.
Deposit (11-0) looks to stay perfect on the season Tuesday when they host Greene, who only has one loss this season. Game starts at 4:30 p.m.

Sherburne-Earlville 4, Herkimer 2
HERKIMER – After having over a week and a half off due to postponements, Sherburne-Earlville rebounded from their loss to Holland Patent with a 4-2 win over non-divisional opponent and host Herkimer Monday afternoon.
The Marauders’ Tessa Cole and Anna Rinaldo went 2-for-4 at the plate, combining for three RBIs in the victory. Cole registered two – one in the fifth inning and one in the seventh – while Rinaldo’s single scored Cole in the fifth.
S-E’s Delaney Parker pitched a complete seven-inning contest, allowing just six hits but striking out four in the process. Parker pitched to contact in the game and her defense handled the rest.
The Marauders did have four errors in the contest but head coach Michelle Parker commented the miscues were ones the team could afford. “It was a good win for us at Herkimer,” said Parker.
Sherburne-Earlville opened up the first inning with a run scored by Alex Kolber. The visiting team added the two runs batted in by Cole and Rinaldo in the fifth and added their insurance run in the top of the sixth when Jaci Wright crossed the plate
Kolber went 3-for-4, leading the Marauders in the hit column.
Sherburne-Earlville (6-3) has a busy week ahead as they will be making up the games postponed. S-E is scheduled to play everyday this week and will travel to Mount Markham on Tuesday. They will then travel to Canastota Wednesday before hosting Frankfort-Schuyler and Holland Patent on Thursday and Friday. All games are scheduled for 4:30 p.m. game times.
