Norwich’s winning streak of four games ends at Windsor
WINDSOR – A much different Norwich team appeared against Windsor Tuesday night as the Purple Tornado were in a battle with the Black Knights. However, Windsor registered one more hit in the game than Norwich and that aided the in 4-2 win to end the Tornado’s winning streak at four games.
Windsor scored three runs in the bottom of the third inning to take the first lead of the contest. Norwich answered, scoring two in the top of the fourth to cut the margin down to one run.
Tanner Franklin led the inning off for the Purple Tornado with a single on a 1-1 count. Norwich’s number two hitter Marcus Cashman was next up and knocked a base hit as well, moving Franklin into scoring position and putting two on the base paths for Norwich’s hitting leader JT Vinal.
Hitting a sacrifice fly out to center field, Vinal brought Franklin across the plate for the the first run. Jordan Jacquette then hit a single that brought Cashman home to score to make it 3-2. Windsor got out of the inning by forcing Eli Rodriguez to hit a ground ball to third, turning a double-play to get both Jacquette and Rodriguez out.
Norwich was unable to register another hit in the game. “We are playing well defensively,” said head coach Rich Turnbull. “Our bats haven’t produced like I thought they would this season. We are a better team now than when we played them before and we are continuing to improve but we need to have more timely hitting.”
The Black Knights added an insurance run in the fifth.
Jacquette started on the mound for Norwich, pitching the full six innings. He struck out three and walked four in his time on the hill, pitching to contact and allowing his defense to get the outs. “Jordan pitched well for us again,” Turnbull said. “We just need to get him more run support.”
Franklin, Cashman, Vinal and Jacquette – Norwich’s one through four hitters of the batting line-up – each had one hit in the game.
