Stiles’ 3rd perfect game of season blanks Lady Trojans

UV falls in high-scoring affair with Sidney

DEPOSIT – The Lady Jacks’ Mackenzie Stiles added another perfect game to her New York State record, making it number 15 of her career as Deposit took down Greene in a 6-0 win Tuesday afternoon.
Until the fifth inning, there were just two base runners in the contest by both teams. Deposit’s Danielle Seymour hit a full-count single to right field on the ground in the bottom of the first and Stiles drew a walk in the fourth.
However, Greene was able to get out of the inning, leaving both base runners on base for the Lady Jacks.
The game was a defensive battle as the score remained 0-0 into the bottom of the fifth. That was when Deposit was able to get a small rally going.
The trip to the plate for the Lady Jacks started with a Zoe Gifford walk. Olivia Kennedy was in the circle for the Trojans and she battled back against Gifford in the at-bat after going down 3-0. The Greene’s ace came back with back-to-back strikes, forcing the 3-2 count and making Gifford protect the plate. The Deposit batter fouled the next pitch off her bat to make Kennedy extend the pitch count.
Gifford walked to first on the ball four call, giving the Jacks their third base runner of the game. Her colleague Kayla Eldred hit a hard grounder to left on the first pitch of the at-bat, sending Gifford into scoring position at second.
With a wild pitch, both runners advanced a base. Mikayla Martin hit the ball back to Kennedy three pitches later and Kennedy got the out at first. While the play was happening at first, Gifford came in to score the run.
Kennedy struck out the Seymour to end the inning without any other damage done by the home team.
Stiles returned to the rubber in the top of the sixth and tossed two of her 18 strikeouts in the game and Bryn Martin tossed out Kylie Ferris after the bunt attempt to keep the perfect game bid alive. In the bottom half of the inning, the Jacks added five runs for the 6-0 victory.
Stiles closed out the game with another two strikeouts and a popup that was caught by her shortstop to end the contest.
Mikayla Martin ended the game going 1-for-4 at the plate, sending two runners into score for two RBIs in. Seymour, Bryn Martin, Stiles, Alaina Smith and Mikala Anderson each had a hit – all singles – in the game for Deposit.
Kennedy ended the afternoon with 12 strikeouts of her own over the six innings of work for the Greene pitcher. She surrendered seven hits and four earned runs in the loss, just her second of the season.
The Trojans (10-2) is off until Saturday morning when they travel to Walton for an 11 a.m. game time.

SIDNEY – The Lady Storm scored 10 runs on four hits Tuesday but Sidney’s offense overpowered Unadilla Valley to win 27-10 at home.
Meegan White of the Storm had two of UV’s four hits – one was a double base knock – and ended the day recording one of the visiting team’s four RBIs.
Unadilla Valley opened up the game scoring five runs in their first trip to the plate, taking the early 5-0 lead. Sidney responded, picking up three runs in the bottom half of the inning to cut the lead down to two.
The Warriors’ defense went out into the field for three Storm batters before returning to the dugout. Their hitters then used their patience in the batter’s box, drawing eight walks and registering two hits to score 13 runs in the inning.
UV battled back, scoring another five runs in the third inning to bring the deficit down to six. However, another big inning but the home team in the bottom of the third allowed Sidney to pull away for good. The Warriors scored nine in the frame to make the score 25-10. Sidney added another two runs in the next inning.
Jenna Hitt and Mia Stirone each added a single in the third. Stirone’s grounder to left field scored Hitt from third.
Unadilla Valley hosts Oxford Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Prior to the start of the game, the Storm seniors will be honored as it will be their last home game of the season.
