Norwich sprint medley relay teams place third in heats at New Balance Nationals

Tornado boys set new school record


GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Norwich Purple Tornado seniors wrapped up their high school track and field careers in Greensboro, North Carolina over the weekend as they raced a members of the Sprint Medley Relay teams at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals hosted at North Carolina A&T Aggies Stadium.

Hailey Colabelli, Riley Marsh, Eric Conant and Gabe Gawronski raced their last race in a Tornado uniform. Colabelli and Marsh were joined by Miranda Cole and Angela Carlson for their emerging elite division of the race on Friday while Conant and Gawronski teamed up with David Berger and Griffin Mills one last time in the championship sprint medley relay class Sunday afternoon.

Friday afternoon saw the girls squad placed 21st out of 55 teams in the event with their time of 1:51.64. After the first three runners – Carlson, Marsh and Cole – finished their divided 400 meter lap, the Norwich team was five-tenths of a second behind the leader and in fourth place for their heat.

With Colabelli giving it her all for her final 400 meters of her career, the senior runner moved Norwich up a position as she ran the fourth fastest spilt (59.91 seconds) of the heat. The Lady Tornado placed third in their section and once the times were complied for the entire event, they came away with 21st place.
