NORWICH – The 24th annual Gus Macker 3-on-3 tournament will take over East Main Street in downtown Norwich in less than three weeks. With several events going on in the final few weeks prior to the tournament, many teams have not registered.
As it was announced late Tuesday, there is still time to sign up a team.
The Norwich Family YMCA stated on their Facebook page Tuesday evening that after receiving many phone calls, a decision by the Macker Committee was made to extend the registration deadline to Monday, July 1 at midnight.
“With the tournament falling on the weekend that it does, we have the ability to extend the deadline and allow more teams to sign up,” said a member of the committee.
The 24th annual Gus Macker Tournament will take place on Saturday and Sunday, July 13 and 14 and the cost to register a four person team is $140. Players can be from the ages of 7 to 97 and divisions are broken down by ages, gender and experience.
Those who are not up for playing still have a chance to be a part of the tournament as volunteers are always needed. Contact the YMCA at (607) 336-9633 or stop in to sign up for various jobs where help is needed. Set up for the tournament takes place on Friday, July 12.
