County Area Agency on Aging seeks meal delivery contract with Fidelis
NORWICH – The Chenango County Area Agency on Aging is looking for a go-ahead from county legislators to enter an agreement with Fidelis Care for a home delivered meal program the agency says may benefit the county's aging Medicaid population.
Agency Director Brian Wessels says a partnership with Fidelis – one of New York's largest managed Medicaid providers – would give the Area on Aging access to a broader range of people with nutritional needs.
If approved, the contract would allow the Agency on Aging to deliver meals to Fidelis members throughout the county without being mandated.
“I think this is a good agreement for us,” said Wessels. “It would be a great opportunity to feed their membership.”
Wessels says a contract would also mean the agency wouldn't have to tap into state aid for nutrition programs which could result in expanded numbers of the people it serves.
The Area on Aging has had similar partnerships with other managed Medicaid care providers in the the past.
A proposal to enter a contract was supported by members of Chenango County's Health and Human Services Committee on Monday. A resolution for approval will likely go before the County Board of Supervisors next month.
