Norwich’s art store celebrates 10 year anniversary

NORWICH – After a decade of success one business owner is continuing to find reasons to celebrate.
In honor of its’ 10th year anniversary The Artists’ Palette will be having an open house August 10 from 12- 3pm at 17-19 South Broad Street. The event will offer free hot dogs from noon until gone, popcorn all day, make n’ take projects, face painting, sidewalk chalk competitions, raffles throughout the day and a special gallery show.
“We have changed so much even in the past few years I think this is a great opportunity for people who have not been here before to come in and meet us and for those who have been here, it gives them just another reason to come visit,” said owner, Jill Kraft. “The gallery will also have a special show displayed that was made possible by a local DEC grant through the council of the arts.” For the past three months I have worked with local agencies and expand out Art of Me Outreach program. This show is a display of all the work produced within that series.
Originally opening August 3rd, 2009, the Artists’ Palette began in the living room of the owner’s home. Now, three moves later and currently operating an almost 6,000 square foot space downtown, Kraft says she wants the entire community to help her celebrate.
In 2014 Kraft moved her store into its’ current location and for the past 5 years the business has expanded and exceeded even her own expectations. Kraft says this 10th year anniversary is all about the revolving door of change the business continues to go through and to take a moment to celebrate what the business is really about. She states also, to her, that means to provide services to the people of this community. Keeping that thought in mind Kraft started Creative Works Inc. a 501c3 non-profit that has taken over much of Kraft’s vision for the expansion of her services. The nonprofit officially opened in 2017 and has slowly started operating many of the programs previously offered by The Artists’ Palette. “This allows us to grow, bring in new instructors and take on a bigger clientele.”
Leading up to the anniversary celebration the building both inside and out has gotten a face lift and many people will see the Creative Works logo gracing the front of the building. “Rest assured” says Kraft, “The Artists Palette, Willow Boutique, and the Cottage Bakery are not going anywhere! I started the non-profit in order to protect my vision and the programs I designed. By turning these over to the non- profit means these services can maintain through the years even after I am no longer here to run them. We can also keep expanding.” For now, she added, she will still be there in every aspect of the store.
The celebration will be going on throughout the day and is free to attend. For more information call Kraft at 607-244-1445 or stop in.
