Assemblyman Crouch opposes pay raise for inmates
ALBANY – Assemblyman Clifford Crouch (R-Bainbridge) is blasting the idea of a statewide pay increase for criminal workers.
Crouch voiced opposition on Thursday for comments made by Gov. Andrew Cuomo in which Cuomo stated he would support a pay raise for criminal workers in New York.
A bill currently working its way through the state legislature would favor compensation for inmates at a base rate of $1.20 to $10 per day. Biannual raises would be given for adequate performance.
The bill also stipulates that inmates not participating in a work or program assignment due to age or frailty will be paid $1 per day, adjusted to the cost of living every five years.
