SHERBURNE – The Lady Marauders opened up their season in big way with a 8-0 over the Town of Webb in the first round of the Sherburne-Earlville Labor Day Soccer tournament.

Tessa Cole, a returning junior and last season’s leading score for S-E, scored a hat trick with three goals finding the back of the net early in the contest and added an assist on one to a teammate’s goals during the contest.

Ayla Shaw added two goals and colleagues Corey Jeffrey and Jordan Winton each tallied a score to help move the host team into the championship game. Winton along with Courtney Geier and Brooklyn Babcock checked an assist next to their names in the contest as well.

The following night, S-E took on McGraw for the tournament’s crown but fell 4-0. The game was scoreless through most of the first half until a shot fired by an Eagles’ forward was deflected by Marauders’ keeper Makayla Cornelius and resulted in a rebounded effort for McGraw’s first goal.

Chances to score grew in the second half for Sherburne-Earlville but the host was unable to capitalize as shots went wide or high of the goal.

McGraw added another three in the second half to take the tournament trophy.

Cole, Shaw and Maleah Britton were named as S-E’s All-Tournament team selections.
