Marauders’ blanked by Clinton, 8-0; Local Sports Roundup
SHERBURNE – Sherburne-Earlville fell in their season opener in a non-league foe Clinton 8-0 as the Lady Warriors outshot the host Marauders 18-1.
Clinton’s Madison Steates tallied four goals in the win and Adele Bahara added one goal and two assists.
Sherburne-Earlville’s head coach Christie Layman noted Katie Keyes had an outstanding defensive defensive performance for the home team despite the loss.
The Warriors also earned 12 penalty corners while S-E was awarded zero.
The Marauders (0-1) host Morrisville-Eaton, Herkimer, and Sidney for the 37th Annual Sherburne-Earlville Varsity Field Hockey Tournament this Friday and Saturday. Games start at 4:30 p.m. Friday for the first round and will conclude Saturday with both the consolation and championship games.

OXFORD – Three Eagle golfers turned in 46’s in Deposit/Hancock’s 238-260 win over the host Blackhawks at Blue Stone Golf Course Tuesday afternoon.
Nick Locke, Roger Newman and Brenna Gleim tied as the match’s top medal as each shot 12-over on the par 34 front of Blue Stone.
Oxford’s Nick Cirello continued to shoot the team’s best round, showing a 47 on his scorecard.
The rest of the Blackhawks’ top five scored in the 50’s with Christian Paden coming in as the second-best with a 51. Teammate Dylan Conklin finished one stroke behind Paden while William Kelsey was two back.
Abby Denz, a seventh-grader listed on the roster, ended the day for Oxford with a round of 57.
Brennan Karcher and Adam Goebel scored a 48 and a 52 to close out the Eagles’ top five golfers.
The Blackhawks (0-3) are still search for the first win of 2019 and will look to get it against Afton/Harpursville on Tuesday, September 10.

AFTON – Bobcats’ forward Ryan Porter scored a hat trick in Tuesday match against Afton/Harpursville to bring him to 10 goals on the young season. Bainbridge-Guilford came away with the 4-1 win.
Tallying the second goal in the contest for B-G was ( ) Luca, bringing the score to 2-0.
Hunter Baciuska of Afton/Harpursville found Bobby Mercelliot in front of the net to cut the Bobcats’ lead down to one but Porter fired home two more to pull away for good.
Porter is currently averaging 3.33 goals per game as his double digit mark has only taken three games to reach.
B-G (2-1) hosts Delhi while Afton/Harpursville (1-1) will see Greene on the home pitch. Both continue the season Friday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.
