Bobcats being hunt for 3rd straight state title with dominate victory
BAINBRIDGE – As Bainbridge-Guilford eyes a third straight New York State Championship, the Bobcats’ started the journey back with a 3-0 win against non-league opponent Chenango Valley in front of the home crowd Thursday evening.
Winning both the first and third sets by a score of 25-11, the home team captured the second 25-8, holding the CV Warriors to a total of 30 points for the match.
B-G’s Erica Selfridge recorded a double-double on the stat sheet, coming away with 12 kills and 10 aces for 22 scoring points in the contest.
The Bobcats’ serves – which has been a struggle in the past – were a factor in the victory as the team tallied 20 aces. Sasha Lamoree added five aces to her 18 assists and Taylor Parsons scored four aces. “Our serving was really on fire during the match,” said Bainbridge-Guilford head coach Tammi Selfridge.
Makenna Clark knocked home eight kills for B-G while Parsons sent five kills over the net that resulted in points for her team.
Jordan Gill picked up 10 digs and Sainian Reeves had three aces and two kills to lead CV.
The Bobcats (1-0) travel to the Union-Endicott tournament for one of the four on the 2019 schedule Saturday. Selfridge has stated in the past that the tournament hosted by the Tigers full of high-level and talented teams and her team looks forward to it every season.

DELHI – Bainbridge-Guilford moved to 3-0 on the season with the nine-stroke win over the Bulldogs of Delhi on Thursday.
On Delhi’s home course, The College Course at Delhi, Thomas Lord shot a 44 (8-over par) to take home medalist honors for the match.
Lord’s teammates Caleb Presley and Jon England finished within one stroke of each other as Presley ended with a round score of 50, England turned in a scorecard with a 51.
Ryan McCarthey (57) and Omar Mohamed (66) rounded out the Bobcats’ top five, aiding in B-G’s win to remain undefeated for the year.
Delhi’s Corey Zwick carded a 49 to finish with his team’s top score. Sean Carron was next with a 54 while Sam Lees added a 55. Gavin Little finished three strokes behind Lees and Cameron Thomson shot a 62.
The Bobcats’ next match is Friday at home course Sundown against the team from Afton/Harpursville. The teams tee off at 4:30 p.m.

NORWICH – Picking up their second win of the season, the Lady Tornado tennis team’s chances rested on the shoulders of No. 1 singles player and Norwich junior Natalie Benenati’s match.
Tied at 3-3, Benenati and opponent Hannah Alton of the Sabers were in the second set as fans, teammates and coaches waited for the outcome of the closely contest match to determine the team winner. The Norwich junior held the match advantage after claiming the first set 6-3.
The two battled through, resulting in a win-by-two game situation, which Benenati finish off Alton with a 7-5 win to avoid a tiebreaker third set and remain at a perfect 3-0 on the season.
Also helping Norwich capture their win was first-year player Emma Brooks as she added a point with a decisive 6-0, 6-2 defeat over Sus Valley’s Sha-Diamond Evans. The win marked Brooks’ first career varsity win.
The Tornado’s Erica Gage rallied back after winning close 7-5 first set to blank (6-0) SV’s Haley Wing in the second at fourth singles. Teammate pairing Brooke Diehl and Chloe Glanville added another point for the team with their 6-4, 6-1 victory.
Norwich forfeited the third doubles match to give the Sabers one of their three points and another was scored by Payton Lloyd and Corinne Zarrelli as the Sus Valley duo won in straight sets.
Senior Logan Fredenburg of the Tornado showed grit and determination as she took her third singles opponent – the Sabers’ Makenna DeMoney – to three sets but did not have enough to hold on, awarding the visiting team a third point for the match.
“Luckily, we play them later this season,” said Norwich head coach Nikki Brookes. “Logan is already looking forward to a rematch against Makenna.
“Overall, the whole squad has continued efforts in developing their skills and tactics, which has put us a 2-1 for the season so far,” continued Brooks. “We are looking to stay on this path.”
Next on the season’s trail for the Tornado is Chenango Forks at home Monday afternoon. Match play is scheduled to start at 4 p.m.
