Mid-York Concert Band returns for a fifth season

NORWICH – On September 10 the Mid-York Concert Band (MYCB) will begin its fifth season under the direction of Mark D. Sands.

According to Sands, the goal of the band is to offer a quality ensemble for area musicians to perform with.

He said there are many local musicians who perform in the areas summer bands and MYCB offers these musicians the opportunity to play throughout the year, and we’d love to have them join the organization.

"It is one of the only ensembles in our immediate area that rehearses and performs from September through May," said Sands. "We welcome all interested wind and percussion musicians to join us this year."

Sands said he hopes that more area musicians will take the opportunity to come to a rehearsal and check us out.

The band is open to all community members with at least high school age, and a medium advanced capability (NYSSMA level 4) and above. Although the band rehearses and performs in Norwich, the band has members traveling from as far away as Madison, Oneonta and Morrisville.

The Mid-York Concert Band rehearses approximately every other Tuesday evening from 7:00 to 9:30 in the Norwich Middle School band room. The first rehearsal of the new season will take place on Tuesday September 10, 2019.

The band performs two concerts a year, our December holiday concert and a spring and Veteran’s salute concert in May. Anyone wishing additional information should contact Mark Sands at (607) 334-4307 or email midyorkcb@gmail.com.
