WINDSOR – Winning their second straight game, the Norwich Lady Tornado soccer game scored seven goals in back-to-back games to win 7-2 against the Windsor Black Knights Monday afternoon.
Norwich head coach Doug Coggins state that it was a much closer game than the score showed against the much improved Windsor team.
“You have to give a lot of credit to the Windsor coach,” said Coggins. “The head coach has put a good group of girls together who are fast and aggressive.”
With the Purple Tornado’s slow start defensively – both back line and midfielders – the Black Knights came away some clean, easy looks at the goal.
Once the Norwich team began to pick up the pace, forward Sydney Coggins opened the scoring with a near-post shot that went between two defenders and into the goal. The Tornado finished with four goals for the night – increasing her season total to 11.
Adding goals of their own were Sara Davis, Emily Davis and Taylor McCarthy.
Sara Davis received a ball from senior teammate Katie Gawronski and finished the play with a nice shot. Emily Davis’ solo run ended with far post placed ball for her goal scored.
Using her power, McCarthy took a dead ball from 30 yards out and fired it into the back of the net.
Halea Eaton, who was once again on the field, was distributing the ball to the wings and ended the game with two assists on the night.
