Lady Tornado blanked by Saints, 7-0

Greene and Norwich golf downed in home matches
BINGHAMTON – As the Saints of Seton Catholic returned most of the team from a season ago, the experience was on display against the Norwich lady netters as they took all seven points in the match against the Tornado Wednesday afternoon.
An extremely talented Saints squad – as noted by the Tornado’s head coach Nikki Brooks – allowed Norwich to win a total of 10 games throughout the entire match, giving up no more than four in any of the individual or doubles matches.
Norwich’s Natalie Benenati, who suffered her first loss of the season to Nikki Crowley, scored those four games, two in each set in the first singles match.
Erica Gage, senior on the Norwich roster, won three games, and Emma Brooks was able to steal a game away from her opponent.
First doubles Brooke Diehl and Chloe Glanville fell captured two games in the match against Seton but fell 6-1 in both sets.
“Seton is very good,” said Brooks. “They are going to be hard to beat this season.”
Norwich (2-3) will see the Saints again in their final match of the regular season. The Tornado face Windsor for the second time this season on Friday. Norwich came away with a 4-2 win in the season opener against the Black Knights.

GREENE – A difference of 26 strokes separated the Eagles of Deposit/Hancock and host Greene in Wednesday’s match at Geneglanslet Golf Course. The Eagles, however, came away with the win over the Trojans with a final of 232-258.
Adam Goebel of Deposit/Hancock was the top medalist of the match, scoring a 45 on nine holes at the course in Greene.
Coming in a stroke back of the leader was teammate Brenna Gleim and the three remaining on the Eagles scorecard all shot 47.
The Trojans were led by Clayton Leonard’s 47 while Nick Brady carded a 51 for Wednesday’s round.
Lincoln Youngs turned in a 52 and colleague Josh Fowler fell in one stroke behind with a 53. Anthony Thatcher of the Trojans rounded out the top five with a 55.
Greene travels north on Route 12 to face the Oxford Blackhawks Friday afternoon at Blue Stone Golf Course. The teams tee off at 4:30 p.m.

NORWICH – In the second match in as many days on the course at Canasawacta Country Club, Norwich fell to the Warriors of Chenango Valley 211-252 as the two played the back nine, par-35 Wednesday.
The Tornado’s Max Marson was the leader on the home team’s scorecard for the second day in a row, carding a 44 for the round. Senior teammate Parker Walsh came in one stroke behind Marson, finishing with a 45.
Chenango Valley’s Tom Christofferersen was the match’s top medalist, shooting a 2-over par 37. Warrior colleague Ryan Wardell ended the round 3-over (38) while Justin Wardell shot a 43 for CV’s top three.
Norwich’s Cameron Birtch turned in a 50 while Nate Revoir and Logan Waters shot a 53 and 60 respectively.
The Tornado (1-4) meet the Warriors in the next scheduled match with two teams meeting at Chenango Valley State Park, CV’s home course. Tee time is slated for 4 p.m. on September 19.
