NORWICH – Hosting the senior night home match of the season, the Lady Purple Tornado took on the Chenango Valley Warriors Wednesday afternoon. The Warriors, however, disrupted Norwich’s plans of winning the match for the three seniors – Erica Gage, Brooke Diehl and Logan Fredenburg – by taking a 5-2 victory away from the home team.
Gage was in yet another long match on her special night, taking the first set 6-2 but fell in the second 4-6 against CV’s Morgan Whittington. Going into a third set tiebreaker, the two battled forever as one needed to win the super tiebreaker by two after passing the normal winning benchmark of 10 points. With the final score coming to 16-14, Gage ended on the wrong side of the decision.
Winning points for the Tornado were Natalie Benenati at first singles and first doubles duo Diehl and Chloe Glanville.
The doubles partners took the first set with ease, winning 5-2 but faced a little trouble in the second before putting away the Warriors’ opponents 7-5.
