Norwich swimming remains unbeaten in meets for 2019

NORWICH – Once again winning a meet in the 2019 season, Norwich Purple Tornado Swim team is undefeated as they topped Chenango Forks 86-73 in the Tornado pool Friday, September 27.

Norwich touched the wall first in eight of the 12 events for the meet and scored several team points with second, third and fourth place finishes. Saundra Gantt switched up the events the girls are used to swimming, providing several girls opportunities to try something out of their norm and it still played out in the Purple Tornado’s favor.

Both of Norwich’s 200 yard medley relay teams placed 1-2, starting off the race in a good way for the home team.

Then, Angela Carlson – who usually races in the 50 yard freestyle – took on the 200 yard event and placed first with a time of 2:18.58. Norwich also saw Aurora Shtrauch finish third and Ashley Coombs come in fifth for the event.

Her teammate who took over the shorter race was Emerson Burton, recording a personal best in the even with 28.70 seconds. Burton – normally the Tornado’s distance swimmer in the 500 yard event –came in first with teammates Haley Shattuck and Julia Llewellyn placing second and third for the event.
