GREENE – The Lady Trojans Field Hockey team snagged a 4-0 shut out win over Deposit/Hancock Wednesday night as Greene’s head coach Christine Battaglini hosted the annual Senior Night game under the lights.
Prior to the start of the league contest between the Eagles and the host Trojans’ Battaglini honored Bri and Brooke Austin, Madison Rice and Sara White for their dedication to the program over the years as the four will graduate in June of 2020.
Once the special recognition was over, Greene got focused on the task at hand – defeating Deposit/Hancock in front of the home crowd.
A stalemate in the first half of play, the Trojans’ Jess Unkel took over in the second as she scored back-to-back goals to give her team 2-0 lead.
Unkel’s first score came from a pass by Alex Brown with just under 23 minutes remaining in the contest.
After both team’s couldn’t put a ball into the cage for the first 47 minutes of action, Unkel needed just two and half minutes after her first to record her second of the game. This time, the ball was delivered to her Olivia Kennedy.
With the 2-0 lead and all the momentum on their side, Greene added another two insurance goals – both coming on assists from Unkel to return the favor from her goals.
Unkel sent a corner into Leah Decker who then turned and fired one into the back of the net for the home team’s third tally of the night.
Kennedy was the fourth and final goal scorer for the Trojans, sending one past the Eagles’ keeper with 7:40 left in the game.
On her special night, Greene’s goalie Brooke Austin stopped the only two shots that were sent her direction in the win.
Greene (6-6) travels to Afton to face the Afton/Harpursville Crimson Knights for one of the final three games left in the regular season. The Trojans still have Maine-Endwell at home on Tuesday, October 15 and are waiting for the make-up date against Vestal that was postponed Thursday, October 3.
Game between Greene and Afton/Harpursville is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.

SHERBURNE – Despite being awarded more penalty corners as well as outshooting the visiting New York Mills team, the Lady Marauders fell 2-1 in the league matchup Tuesday afternoon.
New York Mills had just two shots on goal but made both of them count as Talon Marchese and Kylie Lyons sent them past S-E’s keeper and into the back of the net – one goal being scored in each half of the game.
Marchese’s goal gave the visitors the 1-0 lead at the break. Lyons made it the two goal advantage with 20 minutes remaining in the game.
Sherburne-Earlville’s 12 shots on goal had a hard time passing by the New York Mills keeper. The final shot taking with 17 seconds left finally reached the netting of the cage as Dalaney Parker tallied the lone goal scored by the Marauders.
S-E earned 17 penalty corners in the match while New York Mills did not receive one in the game. The Marauders carried the possession for most of the game with the ball staying mostly in the offensive half of the field but were unable to capitalize on their created leverage.
The Marauders head to Canastota on Thursday for a 4:30 p.m. league game.
