Tornado cross country teams finish third at divisional championships

HARPURSVILLE – Both the Norwich girls and boys cross country teams placed third at the Southern Tier Athletic Conference East Division Championships Tuesday night, held at Cole Park in Harpursville.
In a meet where all seniors were honored for all team’s in attendance, the Purple Tornado’s Adrienne Vedder and Macey Montgomery were recognized for their years of hard work on the courses in the fall sports season.
The race was completed with Norwich’s Hannah DeBates being the first team member to reach the finish line, placing 15th overall with a time of 25:40. Vedder crossed the tape a second after her teammate to capture 16th place for the event.
Later in the race, two Norwich runners came in back-to-back once again as Robyn Diehl and Grace Bookamer finished 23rd and 24th. Diehl ran the course in 27:16 while Bookamer came in a minute later.
The final two Lady Tornado runners finished right behind each other, giving all Norwich girls back-to-back finishes. Maria Pomares and Lexi Slate placed 27th and 28th, finishing the race less than 20 seconds apart.
