Lady Trojans take Spartans to OT for second time

GREENE – Once again seeing extra minutes in a contest against one of the top teams in Section IV, the Greene Lady Trojans field hockey team were tripped up by the Maine-Endwell Spartans 1-0.

Maine-Endwell’s Anna Castaldo, a NCAA Division I committed player, sent the ball past Greene’s Brooke Austin with 4:04 left in overtime to end the game with a one goal differential for the second time this season.

The Spartans held a large advantage with penalty corners and shots taken as they were awarded 16 corners and had 12 attempts at the cage but the Trojans’ keeper Austin was yet again a brick wall, fending off shot after shot.

Greene was held to one shot and given two penalty corners as the ball possession heavily favored M-E.

Austin finished with 10 saves in the game.

“Like she has for us several times this season, Brooke came up big for us,” said Greene’s head coach Christine Battaglini. “Between her and our defense, which played extremely well in this game, we had a chance to knock off one of the top teams in Section IV. It does, however, show that we are capable of playing tough with anyone.”
