Oxford celebrates lone senior with 3-0 win over Sidney

B-G ends league play perfect

OXFORD – For the third time this season, Oxford handed Sidney a three-game loss in the final regular season match for the Blackhawks.
Prior to the start of the match, Oxford’s head coach Kim Martin recognized Catherine Northup – the long senior on the team this season. Northup, who had battled numerous injuries throughout the season, has been unable to play recently because of her knee, was honored for her commitment to the program.
Cleared to serve in the match, Northup came away with five aces in the three games to help lead her team to the Midstate Athletic Conference (MAC) win.
Olivia Kelsey had a big night for the Blackhawks at the net, recording nine kills while she added six digs to her stat line.
Oxford’s Lilie Horton finished with six aces and five kills and Mallory Olsen-Nichols served with five aces. She and teammate Daysha Simpson dished out a combined total of 10 assists, each totaling five in the match. Simpson also put together four kills.
Karissa Maricle was big on defense for the Blackhawks, saving points scored by the visiting Warriors with four digs.
Sidney was led by Seycelle Koli’s full stat sheet as she had two aces, one kill, one block and three digs in the match loss. Baylee Jones added four aces, two kills, one dig and Kaitlyn Brown ended the match registering two kills and a dig.
Oxford (5-4) plays in a MAC crossover Thursday at 5:30 p.m. Who and where the Blackhawks will play is set to be announced on Wednesday.

Bainbridge-Guilford 3, Unatego 0
BAINBRIDGE – The Lady Bobcats of Bainbridge-Guilford remained undefeated in league play for the season as the home team defeated Unatego 3-0 Tuesday night.
Makenna Clark, Erica Selfridge and Taylor Parsons led the way for the B-G as Clark and Selfridge nearly posted double-doubles on the night.
B-G won the first game 25-6 and the third set 25-8, putting away the Spartans early in two of the three games. Unatego battled with the Bobcats in the second game, scoring 13 points in the set but Bainbridge-Guilford quickly finished out off the Spartans to move on to the final game.
The serving for the home team was on point as the team totaled 30 aces in the match.
Clark came up two kills shy of the double-double, ending the night with 10 aces and eight kills while Selfridge nearly had a full statline. She came away from the win with eight aces, five assists and nine kills.
Parsons recorded eight aces, three kills and four digs and Sasha Lamoree, B-G’s setter added four aces to go along with her 14 assists. Libero Bree Barber saved four points on digs to aid in the win for the Bobcats.
Unatego’s Alyssa Feliu put down two kills while Alyssa Blanco registered a kill. The Spartans’ Raven Henry added kill, a block and an assist in the loss and Mikaila Herbst added an ace.
Bainbridge-Guilford, who has been dealt just one loss in the regular season match play, will host the semifinal match of the Midstate Athletic Conference tournament at 5:30 p.m. Thursday. B-G’s opponent will be determined on Wednesday.
