BAINBRIDGE – Sweeping the three games in Monday’s Midstate Athletic Conference (MAC) Volleyball championship, the Bobcats of Bainbridge-Guilford earned the fourth consecutive conference crown. B-G downed a tough Walton Warriors team – the third seed of the MAC tournament.
Bainbridge-Guilford and Walton were separated by eight points at the end of the first game as the Bobcats claimed the set win 25-17. The host team jumped out to an early 12-4 lead in the game but the Warriors battled back to pull within six points at 15-9.
Enter Erica Selfridge – B-G’s hitter on the front line. The junior Bobcat spiked home a few balls over the net, leading her team on a run and finish Walton off for the first game.
Once again, the Bobcats started game two of the match out with a large advantage with Sasha Lamoree, Bree Barber, Josephine Porter and Abbey Delello all contributing to the 16-6 lead. Allowing the Warriors to score just four more points in the set, B-G closed out the second with a final of 25-10.
With the final set getting a 7-1 start in the match, Bainbridge-Guilford cruised to the third game win of 25-10 to sweep the match in three.
Selfridge recorded 11 kills and added five aces, 11 assists, 11 kills and three digs to her stat line as she took charge throughout the match.
Makenna Clark came away with nine kills to also have a big night at the net. Clark had a hand in on the defensive side of the game for B-G with her four digs while colleague Taylor Parsons supported the team in the win with seven kills of her own. Parson added a block.
Sasha Lamoree served up seven aces in the win, leading the Bobcats’ service game. Clark registered five also.
Where Lamoree was also impressive throughout the contest was setting up her teammates for the kills. The Bobcats setter ended the night with 20 assists.
Emma Walley, Molly McClenon and Hailey Gardner stood out for the Warriors in the match. Walley, a senior for Walton, finished with four kills and one block while McClenon also had a block. Gardner distributed the ball four times on points that scored for her team.
Both teams will be competing in the section tournament, which begins next week. All Section IV teams that have qualified for tournament play will be given their seeds Wednesday, October 30.
