BINGHAMTON – The Lady Purple Tornado first double’s team of Natalie Benenati and Emma Brooks placed third at the Section IV Championship tournament a week earlier. Benenati and Brooks took on the first doubles team from Ithaca but fell in straight sets, 6-2 and 6-2.
As the tournament was a double elimination setup, Brooks and Benenati began their journey back through the field against Vestal in their next match.
The Norwich duo took set one with a score of 6-2 but Vestal downed Benenanti and Brooks 6-3 in the second, forcing a match-deciding third.
The Golden Bears partners they went against took the third and final set 6-4, ending the Tornado’s chances for a state championship berth.
“[Natalie and Emma] held their own and belonged at the qualifier level,” said Norwich’s head coach Nikki Brooks. “It just didn’t go the way we wanted it to. Now we start to prepare for next year.”
Benenati returns in the fall of 2020 for her senior season while Brooks will come into the season as a sophomore.
