City of Norwich hosts “Don’t Be The Dealer,” drug take-back day
NORWICH – Over 80 pounds of prescription medication were delivered to the Norwich Police Department on Saturday, and law enforcement officials said that’s pounds of medication that won’t end up on the street.
The “Don’t Be The Dealer” drug take-back program is sponsored by the Department Enforcement Administration (D.E.A.), and was held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the Norwich Police Department Building.
According to Norwich Police Department Assistant Chief Scott Burlinson, the Norwich Police Department received over 80 pounds of prescription medication for the one day event, which he said is more than average.
“It’s safer to bring old medications to us so we can let the D.E.A. dispose of them safely, rather than leave them around or try to dispose of them yourself,” said Burlison. “People don’t realize that they’re keeping things in their home that someone might be after, like oxycodone.”
