NORWICH – The Mid-York Concert Band musicians bridge the generation gap as they prepare for their winter concert.
The Mid-York Concert Band will present their annual holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. on Dec. 10 at the Norwich High School Auditorium.
Band Director Mark Sands has been violinist since age 8, he is a graduate of Potsdam's Crane School of Music, further studies at The College of St. Rose, with 22 years heading the Norwich City School District’s string program. Sands is celebrating his fifth year directing the band.
Band representatives said this is a high-quality, 30 piece, performing ensemble made up of professionals, educators and dedicated amateurs from Chenango and surrounding counties.
Representatives encouraged others to join them for the spring program.
This holidays' highlights will include The Nightmare Before Christmas with selections from the movie, music from the Broadway show "Chicago", a Christmas sing-along, Hanukkah, Festival of Lights featuring clarinetist Ms. Sarah Matteson, a calypso version of "Mary's Little Boy Child" and LeRoy Anderson's "Sleigh Ride".
Well-known area pastor the Reverend Dr. David Spiegel will narrate "The Night Before Christmas", a poem by Clement C. Moore, accompanied by the band. All will be topped off with John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever".
This free concert is supported by the Chenango Arts Council's Decentralization Program and the NYS Council of the Arts. Representatives also anticipate attendee’s additional support through a free will offering at the door.
