Norwich school to host breakfast for active military and veterans
NORWICH – Norwich high school student government will be holding a breakfast for all active military and veterans from 9 to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 12 at the Norwich High School cafeteria.
Reservations can be made by calling the high school, by bringing a flyer in, or responding to the Norwich High School Facebook page.
When asked why they were hosting a breakfast for veterans and military members, Student Government Advisor Kelly Colosi said, “We believe that teaching does not only happen in the classroom but also comes from the wealth of knowledge shared by community members and their worldly experiences. We feel there is no better way to honor their service then by sharing a meal and giving out thanks to them.”
While it is encouraged to RSVP for the event, anybody and everybody is welcome to the event whether they were able to RSVP or not.
Norwich High School Principal Kistin Giglio said, “This is a great opportunity for students to hear stories of what war is like, and to understand the situations veterans have been in while protecting their country.
School officials said they want to give students the opportunity to connect with local veterans and get an idea of the sacrifices that they have made in both the battlefield and daily lives.
NCSD employee Richard Turnbull said, “One of the big reasons why we wanted to do this is because it’s important that we don’t forget the sacrifices that have been made by U.S. veterans.”
