Upcoming Women’s Health talk to focus on Varicose veins

NORWICH – Varicose veins are a common condition, but sometimes these swollen, visible veins can require medical treatment.

“Varicose veins are caused by increased blood pressure in the veins near the surface of the skin. They can happen anywhere in the body, but are most common in the legs,” explained Dr. Mark Brennan, a specialist at UHS General Surgery in Norwich.

Brennan, a vascular surgeon, will shed light on the topic on Tuesday, November 19 at Bohemian Moon, 103 E. Main Street in Norwich. The program is part of UHS Chenango Memorial Hospital’s 2019 Women’s Health Series.

This event will begin at 6 p.m. with an optional $15 buffet and cash bar. Brennan’s presentation will follow at 7 p.m., and include ample time for questions.

“I hope to educate people on what to look for, what risk factors are associated with varicose veins and how to treat them,” the medical provider said.

According to Community Outreach Coordinator Jamie Hagenbuch, the program is the final installment the 2019 Women’s Health Series.

“This is a topic that is especially relevant for women, and we were very happy that Dr. Brennan was so willing to present for us. It’s the perfect way for us to cap off this year’s series,” she said.

A 2020 series is planned, and will kick off in January, Hagenbuch said.
