Oxford and Greene swim wrap up season at Section IV Class C meet

WATKINS GLEN – Oxford’s Regan Finnegan and the Greene Lady Trojans swim team participated in the Section IV Class C Championship meet Saturday. Finnegan, a team of one for the Blackhawks, captured 15 points from placing in the finals heats in her two events while the Trojans earned 119 points for eighth in the team standings.
Finnegan swam in both the 200 yard freestyle and the 100 yard backstroke for her first appearance at the sectional finals meet. After earning a spot in the championship heat, the Oxford swimmer placed eighth with her time of 2:26.97 in the 200 yard free.
In the 100 yard backstroke, she swam in the B finals and captured 13th place with her time of 1:18.13. Finnegan earned four points for the backstroke and 11 points in the freestyle event.
Greene’s swimmers earned a sixth and seventh place finish in both the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relays while finishing eighth in the 200 yard medley relay.
The Trojans had both Amy Bentley and Madison Pavlovich place in the top 16 of the 200 individual medley event. Bentley came away with 10th place with her time of 2:52.31 while Pavlovich swam a 3:07.94 to finish 12th in the race.
Bentley also placed 14th in the 100 yard breaststroke and teammate Ella Prindle touched the wall just after to earn 15th in the event. Prindle’s other race she participated in was the 100 yard butterfly, an event where the Greene swimmer was 12th with her time of 1:23.44.
Racing in the same event as Prindle was Pavlovich. The Trojans’ freshman participant placed two spots behind her colleague with her time of 1:27.24.
Placing in the top 10 of the 100 yard freestyle field was Greene’s Skyler Nowalk, finishing the race at 1:05.34. She also placed 11th in the 50 yard freestyle with her time of 29.36 seconds.
Olivia Ketzak was also at Saturday’s finals day to represent the Trojans in both the 200 yard and 500 yard freestyle events – two of the longest individual races of the meet.
Ketzak placed 11th in the 200 yard race, swimming to a time of 2:31.84 and finished 14th in the 500 yard freestyle. Her time in the longest event of the day was 6:59.77.
The 2019 Class C championship meet completed the two program’s season.
