Oxford/Greene starts season on lanes edging out Sidney

Norwich boys sweep Windsor, girls fall by 4-1

GREENE – Combing forces for the 2019-2020 season, Oxford and Greene claimed a 3-1 win on the lanes for the boys side of the match and tied Sidney 2-2 in the girls contest.
Oxford/Greene’s Erin Howard finished the match as the girls top bowler with a three game tally of 634 pins, bowling game highs in both game one (209) and game two (242). The host team captured the game win behind Howard’s score in game one but fell in game two to Sidney by 30 pins.
The Oxford/Greene senior bowled a third game score of 183 and her teammate’s Halia Tallett and Kayli Willes helped Oxford pick up the second point of the match with their 176 and 168 games.
The visiting Warriors captured the second point for their team by edging out Oxford/Greene by a single pin in the three game total, winning 2284-2283.
Tallet ended the contest with a three game total of 469 while Willes finished with a 439. Mikayla Trost totaled 364 while Lilac Shaffer and Brianna Fowlston split the three games. Shaffer bowled the first two for a total of 239 while Fowlston stepped on the lanes for the final game and rolled a 137.
The Oxford/Greene boys secured a close win by five pins as they stole the final point of the match to avoid the tie.
Jakob Funnel of the host team bowled a match-high 620 for the three games. His total included a game one high of 247. His colleague Cole Johnson helped lead the team to a game two win with his 224. Johnson finished the match with a total of 576.
Sidney’s Ryan Cole tallied a team-best 570 and led all bowlers in came two with his 241. Teammate Tanner Boice bowled a 204 in game three, aiding in the Warriors win. Boice finished the match with a 545.
Oxford/Greene’s Riley Seely ended with a 486 while Nick Flynn bowled a 459 and Cameron Fish totaled 399 for the three games.
The home boys and girls team will host Unadilla Valley on Friday at Greene Bowlodrome. Match is set to start at 3:45 p.m.
Norwich boys sweep Windsor, girls fall by 4-1
NEW BERLIN – Norwich’s Cameron Birtch led the host Purple Tornado to a win over the visiting Black Knights, finishing with a three game total of 628 as Norwich swept all five points in the match.
Birtch bowled a 212, 213 and 203 in the three games – all game-highs – as the team tallied 2323 pins compared to Windsor’s 1876.
Also aiding in the Norwich season opening win was Kai Scheer’s 522, which included a 208 in game two, and Cooper Burton’s 406. Dawson Robinson bowled a 397 for the three games while Landon Stone and Parker Smith spilt the three games.
Stone participated in game two for the home team, rolling a 116 and Smith bowled a 110 in game one before finishing the match with a 144 in the final game of the afternoon.
The Norwich girls claimed a win in game two, topping their Windsor opponents 630-623 but it was the only point the Lady Purple Tornado earned in the match.
Andie Mucha bowled a match-high three game total of 487 and teammate Sophia Dabbraccio rolled a 451.
Zhary Wescott finished the match with a 324 while Kiara Franqui and Rylie Mullin bowled a 328 and a 214 respectively.
Norwich was scheduled to face Chenango Forks on Thursday but the match has been postponed to a later date. The Tornado’s next match is slated for Monday at 3:40 p.m. in Chenango Valley.
