Police seek suspect who fled in stolen vehicle

NORWICH – The City of Norwich Police Department is searching for a person who fled from a traffic stop in a Chevy Blazer Thursday night, and said an investigation is ongoing.

According to City of Norwich Police Department Detective Sergeant Reuben Roach, at approximately 9:30 p.m. Thursday night Norwich police officers attempted a traffic stop on a tan 2000 Chevy Blazer on Rexford Street.

Roach said the vehicle pulled away, and a pursuit continued with representatives of the New York State Police assisting.

He said the pursuit was called off due to excessive speeds and road conditions once law enforcement reached North Norwich.

“From the initial investigation, we believe that this is another vehicle pursuit related to the drug problem that exists in this County,” said Roach. "These officers are making quick and critical decisions that directly affect the public.”

“We are hopeful that through this investigation, arrests will be made."

Anyone with information regarding the pursuit is asked to call the Norwich Police Department at (607) 334-1212.
