Blackhawks, Marauders and Bears pick up first dual meet wins of 2019-2020 season

GREENE – The Oxford/Greene wrestling team notched their first win in dual meet action of the season, defeating Deposit/Hancock in a close match Wednesday night 38-33.
With one double forfeit to start the match and just three forfeits throughout, both teams needed their wrestlers to come away with big wins in order to decide the meet victory.
After five straight bout wins in weight classes 113, 120, 126, 132 and 138, Oxford/Greene took a commanding 26-6 lead. Despite Deposit/Hancock earning pins at 220 and 285 along with three wins in the middle of the match, the early 20 point advantage secured the meet victory for the home team.
Oxford/Greene’s 195 pounder Noah Kennedy pinned Nick Caiati of Deposit/Hancock to capture six points for his team, sealing the dual meet win. Kennedy finished the match at 1:23 in the first period.
Also winning by pinfall during the early part of the match where Oxford/Greene took the big margin was Kaden Wakefield (120) and Tyler Brown (138). Wakefield pinned in the second period while Brown needed just 49 seconds to take the bout win.
Aiden Marcin of the home team captured a techfall win over Ethan Payton with a final of 16-1 and
Lyric Libby picked up a 3-0 decision victory at 132 pounds, defeating Deposit/Hancock’s Sam Parkinson.
At 152 pounds, Oxford/Greene’s Brady Smith grabbed six points for the home team with a pinfall win in the first period. Putting Connor O’Boyle down to the mat at 1:17 seconds, Smith earned his first win of his season.
Oxford/Greene is now off until next week when they take on non-conference opponent Maine-Endwell on the road. Match is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m.

Sherburne-Earlville 30, Poland 18
POLAND – Only two bouts were wrestled throughout the match between the S-E Marauders and the meet’s host Poland. Both matches went in favor of the host team but with forfeits at 160, 182, 195, 220 and 285 that gave Sherburne-Earlville six points in each, the visiting Marauders captured their first dual meet win of the season 30-18 Wednesday.
Morgan Lakin, Chyle Foster, Tegan Campbell, Alex Thompson and Colby Spavin all earned forfeit wins in the meet to give S-E the win.
Wrestling in the two bouts were Nathan Black and Joey Furner for the Marauders. Black and Furner each lost due to a pin.
Black kicked off the match against Shayne Stein and battled until the second period where Stein was able to put Black’s back to the mat and pinned the S-E wrestler at the 3:28 mark of the 170 pound bout.
Later in the match, Dane Tanner of Poland put a quick takedown on Furner and pinned him 30 seconds into the match.
Weight classes 99, 106, 113, 120, 126, 132 and 138 had no matches as both teams double forfeited.
Sherburne-Earlville will be in action on Tuesday, December 17 when they host Morrisville-Eaton at 6 p.m.

BAINBRIDGE – Of the 15 scheduled bouts in the match between host Bainbridge-Guilford-Afton-Harpursville and Walton/Delhi, 12 were wrestled and saw the Bears come out on top as they took down the visiting team 63-21 Tuesday evening.
The Bears won 11 total bouts, including eight by pinfall and just two by decision.
BGAH’s 99 pounder Darren Florance kicked off the match at 99 pounds against Walton/Delhi’s Garrett Copeland. The recently crowned Clyde Cole champion needed 13 seconds to take the bout win and the early lead for the Bears.
Kenyon Pickens of BGAH picked up a 6-4 decision win against Xander Davies 6-4 at 106 pounds to give the home team back-to-back wins in the meet. BGAH added another three straight wins as Joey Florance (113) pinned his opponent in 50 second before Jose Bivar (120) and Jacob Terpstra (126) earned their second period fall victories.
Before BGAH captured another four wins in a row, Cody Merwin – a New York State Championship place winner in 2018-2019 season, stole six points with a 33 second pinfall win over the Bears’ Devin Rowe.

Craig James earned a pin for BGAH at 195 pounds over Ty Lambrecht of Walton/Delhi at 2:56 and Timmy James won by forfeit for the Bears in the last match of the night.
Scotty Barnhart captured the visiting team’s fourth win of the meet with a close 2-0 decision over the Bears Rocco Arduini at 220. Prior to the decision win for Barnhart, Walton/Delhi grabbed forfeit victories at 170 and 182.
