Late third quarter run pushes Panthers ahead of UV
OV battles but falls short to Brookfield
NEW BERLIN – Garrett Lum of the Edmeston Panthers changed the outcome of game with back-to-back 3-point buckets at the end of the third and the start of the fourth to push the visitors past the host Unadilla Valley Storm Thursday night 51-41.
The Storm held a four points lead after the first quarter but the Panther responded by outscoring UV 15-11 in the second stanza to bring the game to a 21-21 tie at the break.
Lum’s field goals broke open at close game at the start of the final quarter of play, swinging the momentum in favor of Edmeston. Unadilla Valley’s offense stalled for a three minute span to start the fourth and with the big shots by Lum, the Storm was unable to recover.
In the third, Edmeston pulled away from the host team by going on a 16-9 run. The fourth saw the Panthers hold the lead by scoring 14 in the quarter, five coming at the free throw line down the stretch.
Lum ended the game with nine points while the Panthers were led by Josh Martin’s 17 points.
Despite the loss, UV’s Cameron Osborne posted his second double-double of the season. Osborne finished the game with 18 points to lead the Storm while he pulled in 13 rebounds.
Teammate Caleb Parker added 11 points and colleagues Dylan Nichols and Tim Postma each contributed five.
Greg DeVries chipped 12 points for Edmeston.
Unadilla Valley (1-2) will play host to the Greene Trojans on Tuesday in the Storm’s Midstate Athletic Conference opener. Game is slated for a 7:15 p.m. start.

OTSELIC – Playing the game with only six players, the Vikings of Otselic Valley held tough with Brookfield as they trailed by five with four and half minutes left in the game. However, Lane Adams of the home team fouled out, leaving the Vikings with five players.
Brookefield then took advantage, getting to the rim and finishing as they took a five point advantage and extended it to a 20-point win Thursday night over OV.
Otselic Valley and Brookfield were tied 16-16 at the end of the first quarter but the visitors took a seven point advantage into the locker room at halftime.
The Vikings, despite playing with limited numbers, battled to keep the game close as they scored 19 in the third quarter and trailed by nine entering the final eight minutes.
During the last quarter of the game, OV clawed and climbed their way back into the game, bringing the deficit down to as many as five before Brookfield pulled away for good.
Prior to Adams fouling out, he tallied a game-high 28 points, knocking down seven from behind the 3-point arc.
His teammate Garrett Wood posted 17 points and came away with a double-double the hard way, dishing out 11 assists in the loss. Also having a nice scoring day was the Vikings’ youngster Braeden Davis as he finished the game with 15 points and pulled down five rebounds.
Brookfield was led by Kodie Abrams 27 points and they had four others end the night in double figures. Preston Crespo added 16 while Kaden Ondrako contributed 11. Worden and Winfield finished with 10 and 12 respectively.
The Vikings are in action again Friday against Fabius-Pompey at home. Game will tip-off at 6 p.m.
