Greene/Oxford claim MAC wins in both boys’ and girls’ matches
SIDNEY – The Storm of Unadilla Valley took on host Sidney at the lanes on Wednesday. The Lady Storm captured a 3-1 win over the home Warriors while the Sidney boys topped UV 3-1.
Gracie Oglesby of the Storm rolled a three-game total of 576, bowling a game two score of 206 – the highest single game score of the girls’ match. Oglesby also bowled a 185 in both the first and third games for her match-high series tally.
Her colleague Brynn Grant ended the day with a 563 series, rolling a 183, a 192 and 188 for the day while teammate Paige Catena scored a 525, coming away with a 191 for the middle game.
Unadilla Valley fell in the first game of the match to the host team as Sidney’s Maegan Mazzarello led her team to the win with a 194. Kori Scott’s 184 and Allison Babcock’s 187 aided in the win. However, paced by Oglesby’s 206 in game two and Grant’s 188 in game three, UV came away with the two wins and added the pin total win as they topped the Warriors by 168.
The Storm boys used Brandon Kneale’s 230, Colin Grant’s 217 and Owen Hill’s 201 to capture game three of the match 972-851, but Sidney’s 924 and 1048 in the first two games topped the visitors. The Warriors also won the pin total point by outscoring UV 2823-2780.
Sidney’s Ryan Cole finished the afternoon match with three games in the 200’s, rolling a 211, a 236 and 217. Teammate Jacob Ostrander scored a 237 for the match’s highest single game score in game two, helping the Warriors win 1048-893.
UV’s Grant finished with a three-game series of 621, a team best in the match. Kneale scored 578 and teammate Nick Guller, who rolled a 211 in the second game, ended the day just one pin behind Kneale. Nate Rumovicz scored a 517 series – which included a 204 in game two – and Hill ended the day with a 487.
Unadilla Valley hosts Hancock at the Lake Street Lanes in New Berlin on Friday at 3:45 p.m.
Greene/Oxford tops Afton/Harpursville in MAC match
GREENE – On the lanes of their home location, the Greene Bowlodrome, the Greene/Oxford boys and girls teams took a Midstate Athletic Conference win over visiting Afton/Harpursville Wednesday afternoon. The boys captured a 3-1 win, falling in game two of the match, while the girls swept Afton/Harpursville 4-0.
Greene/Oxford’s Nick Brady and Jakob Fuller opened the match with a 234 and 225, pacing the home team to a game one 920-821 win over Afton/Harpursville, but the visitors answered in the next game behind Zach Swislosky’s 193.
In game three, Nick Shoemaker’s 195 led the Greene/Oxford team to the third game win. The home team won the match overall with a 2433-2287 pin total final score.
Shoemaker scored a 366 in the two games he was on the lanes, while Fuller led the team with a 547. Brady ended with a score over 500 for the day as well, rolling a three-game total of 511.
Nick Flynn, who also bowled in all three games for the home team, scored a 467 while Cole Johnson and Rylie Seely split their games up with Shoemaker. Johnson bowled in the first two games and ended the day with a 274, while Seely bowled the first and third games for a total of 268.
Afton/Harpursville’s Justin Sayman bowled team-high scores in games two and three, rolling a 189 and a 216, to finish the match with a 572 – the highest three game score in the boys’ match. Swislosky ended with a 473 and teammate Jason Reeve was just one pin off of Swislosky.
Caleb Schultes rolled a 455 for Afton/Harpursville and Wyatt Austin rounded out the line up with a 455.
The ladies of the Greene/Oxford squad captured all four points in the match, out-rolling the visitors 2374-2011.
Kayli Willes led the home team with a 553 in the match, starting the three-game day off with a 203. She followed the opening game up with a 190 in game two and rounded out the afternoon with a 160.
Teammate Erin Howard ended her day with a 534 series score, rolling a 164, a 180 and a game three high 190. Brianna Fowlston also participated in all three games of the match, scoring a 444 with a 143, a 153 and a 148.
Halia Tallett, Lilac Shaffer and Mikayla Trost divided the other three games with each girl bowling two in the match. Shaffer and Tallet started off the match while Trost bowled in both games two and three. Tallet joined Trost in the final game of the day. Tallet tallied a two game total of 269, Shaffer finished with a 312 and Trost rolled a 262.
Afton/Harpursville’s Kassie Merrilliott led the team in the match with a 456 series and colleague Sasha Whitney totaled a 448 in the three games. Taylor Rutherford scored a 434 and Destinee Thompson ended the day with a 364 series.
Cheyenne Fraham recorded a 167 between the first and third game while Ashlyn Cafferity scored a 142 in game two.
Greene/Oxford’s next time on the lanes is schedule for after the holiday on December 27 at 11 a.m. in Hancock. Afton/Harpursville will face the same opponent on December 30 at 9 a.m.
