Blackhawks cruise past Spartans in non-league meet
ENDWELL – The Oxford/Greene Blackhawks defeated Maine-Endwell on the wrestling mat Wednesday night in a 69-12 rout over the host Spartans.
Maine-Endwell, a Southern Tier Athletic Conference team, scored their 12 points due to two forfeits by the Blackhawks at 170 and 182 pounds as Oxford/Greene does not have a wrestler listed on their roster in the two weight classes.
The Blackhawks, however, did fill all other classes to win five by forfeits. In the bouts that were wrestled, Oxford/Greene took all but one by pinfall.
Tyler Brown of the visiting team earned a close 8-6 decision win at 132 pounds as he defeated Payton Bennett of the Spartans.
Oxford/Greene’s Kaden Wakefield, Damien Hitt, Brady Smith, Hunter Wells, Hunter Page and Skyler Graves all earned victories in the match with a pin.
Wakefield pinned Alex Wilber of M-E in the third period at 5:24. Smith earned his pinfall win over TJ Serkiz 15 seconds into the second period while Page also won in the second period, pinning Casey Krissell at 3:02.
Wells captured his win with two seconds left in the first period, taking down Aiden McHugh early in the match. Hitt and Graves won by pinfall but a time wasn’t noted by the coaches.
Oxford/Greene, who is now 2-1 overall in dual meets this season, sits second in the Midstate Athletic Conference Division-II standings. The Blackhawks will rest through the holidays and take to the mat again at the Windsor Christmas Tournament on December 27 and 28.
