Chenango Arts Council celebrates end of 2019 art exhibit

The Chenango Arts Council held the 2019 members meeting to celebrate the closing of this years exhibit. Members were greeted with wine and cookies and asked to fill out a survey to find out how the CAC could improve membership for the upcoming year.

NORWICH – Monday, the Chenango Arts Council celebrated the closing of this year’s art exhibit with the 2019 member meeting.

The meeting was an opportunity for the members of the Chenango Arts Council to give feedback on how the council might better support its membership.

“We're asking our members to fill out a survey that will tell us where we've been helpful and where we can be more helpful to our members,” said CAC Executive Director Alecia O'Neill.

According to administrative assistant Mary Beth Miller, every year the arts councils sets up a month-long members exhibit, usually the second half of November into December.  Any member may submit up to three pieces of artwork.

“We always have a closing reception which doubles as a Christmas party where people can pick up their art.” said Miller.

There were several art mediums displayed at the exhibit, including photography, paintings, sculptures, fabric, and wood working. Artists from all ages were displayed in the main show room and loft above.

“We are so thankful for each of our members and their talents, without them we would just be “The Council,” said O'Niell with a chuckle.

There are several benefits to becoming a member of the CAC including a marketing campaign complete with online promotion, mailers and posters; experienced gallery staff who can assist with displaying the art, and a secure place to store the artwork that is fire, smoke, and theft insured.

Artists interested in having their work displayed in the 2020 CAC exhibit may submit their resume, artist statement detailing the concept of their exhibit, along with eight images of the pieces they'd like displayed and a detailed list of mediums, titles, and sizes. Artists can submit their proposal to info@chenangoarts.org or call 607-336-ARTS for more information.
