Cause of fatal Guilford car crash still under investigation
GUILFORD – New York State Police officials said they are still investigating the cause of a fatal car crash that occurred in Guilford on Wednesday between a SUV and tractor trailer.
At approximately 6:17 p.m., on Christmas Day, state police responded to a fatal crash involving a car and a tractor trailer on State Route 8 and County Road 35 in the Town of Guildford.
According to a statement from the New York State Police, the passenger of the SUV was killed during the crash and the driver was transported by ambulance to Wilson Medical Center with serious injuries.
The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed that the tractor trailer was northbound on State Highway 8 when a 2004 Subaru Forester, traveling eastbound on County Route 35, collided with the vehicle.
Police did not release the names of those involved.
Police stated the Subaru Forester traveled through a stop sign intersection and passed underneath the tractor trailer that was traveling through the intersection perpendicular to the Forester.
Police said the Forester went through the intersection, and they noted that there is a stop sign on County Route 35.
Further details will be released later, but the investigation is ongoing.
