Police release names of couple in fatal Guilford crash

GUILFORD – The New York State Police released the names of two people involved in a fatal car accident involving an SUV and a tractor trailer in Guilford on Wednesday and said details surrounding the accident are still under investigation.

According to New York State Police Troop C Public Information Officer Aga Dembinska, at approximately 6:17 p.m., on Christmas Day, New York State Police at Sidney responded to a fatal crash involving an SUV and a tractor trailer on State Route 8 and County Road 35 in the Town of Guilford.

Police said a 2004 Subaru Forester appeared to have passed through a stop sign at an intersection and struck a tractor trailer on the side, with the SUV crashing underneath the trailer.

The passenger of the SUV William T. Brett, 73, of Kenoza Lake, NY, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Dembinska said the driver of the SUV, Patricia A. House, 78, of Kenoza Lake, NY, was sent via ambulance to Wilson Medical Center.

On Thursday a representative of Wilson Medical Center said House is currently in the intensive care unit (ICU) but is in stable condition.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and police said they aren’t facing charges at this time.

Dembinska said Brett was sent to Lordes Hospital for an autopsy, and that the investigation is ongoing. She said Brett and House were in a relationship at the time of the incident.
